Bird and Pitcher, 8" x 10"

Here's the black and white value study I painted several months ago of my bird sitting with a pitcher. I was very interested in honing my ability to understand values. While I work on my second truck painting (yes, there is another one underway), I may do a few 6 x 6" still life paintings featuring my bird. Stay tuned!

This version of your bird could not be more different, Pam. There is a real sense of the weight and texture of the objects, as well as the values you were seeking to understand. I feel that there is a real depth and quiet thoughtfulness to this painting. I love it!!

Nice depth and beautiful sense of texture. Err, ditto what Judy said! I love the highlites on the pitcher. It's amazing how much simpler things get when you take color out of the equation!!! Keep 'em coming Pam!!

Hi Pam,
lovely value study...
thanks for your kind comments on my blog.
Multiples help drive the thing home I think, whatever that thing is!

Pam, this is lovely. I'm in a workshop that is focusing on values, and I have been giving them more thought of late too. Merry Christmas!
